Tea is good for you!

Now, as a pirate I would rather YARR! And down a cup o’ Joe followed by a mug o’ rum, but in my alter ego as a person (the pirate is the real me), I am rather fond of a well-brewed cup of tea. Perhaps that comes of growing up with an English mother.

Either way, I was pleased to see not one, but two articles in Science Daily today about the benefits of tea. Now I can have my tea and (multiple) biscuits and not feel guilty! Yes, this post has been designed to let me eat more biscuits. Well it’s late on a Friday and it’s been a stressful afternoon, so can you blame me?

White Tea

Article numero uno names white tea (that’s like jasmine tea and stuff, not just regular tea with a splash of milk, although that is how I like it for future reference) as the best healthy-ish drink around, out of the 21 natural remedies they tested. It contains a mad amount of anti-oxidants that can prevent cancer and heart disease by mopping up free radicals like cabin boys swabbing decks. It also contains stuff that inhibits enzymes that breakdown collagen and elastin, meaning you look young and FAB-U-LOUS for longer.

Moreover, “after white tea, bladderwrack performed well followed by extracts of cleavers, rose, green tea, angelica, anise and pomegranate,” claims Science Daily. And which would you rather drink, yummy white jasmine tea or bladderwrack?

Bladderwrack

Article numero dos says that black tea may fight diabetes, because it contains polysaccharides (a long chain sugar such as cellulose or starch) which can slow down absorption of glucose. I’m not interested in diabetes though, because a diabetic person once slept with my boyfriend (not the current one obviously). I’m not very sympathetic to the disease anymore.

So after a stressful day, why not relax with a hot cup of tea and a gigantic packet of biscuits? Now if only it prevented scurvy…
